Life Isn’t What Happens — It’s How You Respond

There’s a powerful truth that becomes clearer the further you walk along your healing and awakening path:

Only 10% of life is what happens to you.
The other 90% is how you respond.

It’s simple.
But it’s not always easy.

Challenges come in many forms — unexpected endings, emotional triggers, financial stress, transitions, healing crises, spiritual upheaval, moments where your path feels foggy or your heart feels heavy. We don’t always get to control what arrives at our feet.

But we do get to choose how we meet it.

The 10/90 Rule reminds us that transformation doesn’t happen by eliminating discomfort — it happens by learning how to hold yourself through it.

Your Nervous System Responds Before Your Mind Does

When you’re faced with difficulty, your nervous system reacts first.


That reaction is shaped by past hurt, old beliefs, childhood conditioning, and survival patterns that once protected you.

This is why you might:

  • shut down

  • lash out

  • spiral in anxiety

  • jump to worst-case scenarios

  • fall into people-pleasing

  • or disconnect completely

These patterns don’t mean you’re failing.
They mean you’re human.

The 10/90 rule empowers you to pause, breathe, and bring awareness to these reactions — not judge them, not shame them, but witness them.

Awareness is the beginning of choice.

The Pause That Changes Everything

Between stimulus and response, there is a moment — a sacred sliver of space — where your soul has a chance to speak.

It’s the moment where you can say:

  • “I don’t have to react from fear.”

  • “I can choose presence instead.”

  • “I can soften before I collapse.”

  • “I can breathe before I respond.”

The pause doesn’t erase discomfort, but it shifts the energy.


It breaks the old pattern long enough for a new one to emerge.

Most challenges don’t require the “perfect” reaction.


They require a conscious one.

Challenges Reveal Your Strength, Not Your Weakness

When something difficult happens, it’s easy to fall into the belief:

  • “Why is this happening to me?”

  • “Did I do something wrong?”

  • “Am I slipping backward?”

But challenges are often invitations.

They show you:

  • where your healing is deepening

  • where your boundaries are strengthening

  • where your intuition is guiding you

  • where your resilience has grown

  • where your old self is shedding

  • where your new self is emerging

The challenge is the catalyst.


Your response is the transformation.

You Always Have a Choice — Even When It Feels Like You Don’t

The 10/90 Rule doesn’t claim that life is easy, or that you should spiritually bypass real pain. Instead, it offers you a doorway:

The power to choose how you show up.

You can choose:

  • curiosity instead of judgment

  • compassion instead of criticism

  • presence instead of panic

  • groundedness instead of urgency

  • responsibility instead of blame

  • softness instead of self-abandonment

The choice doesn’t have to be big.


Sometimes the “90%” is simply taking one conscious breath.

Sometimes that’s enough to change everything.

Life will always contain moments that shake you, stretch you, and invite you deeper into yourself.

You don’t need to control the 10%.
You only need to lovingly meet the 90% that belongs to you:

your breath,
your awareness,
your boundaries,
your truth,
your presence,
your choice.

Your power lives in how you respond.

Every conscious choice is a step toward your healing.


Every moment of awareness is a returning.


Every breath taken before reacting is a reclamation of your power.
